The ISL95866C is compliant with Intel IMVP8™, andprovides a complete power solution for desktop micro

processors supporting core (IA), graphics (GT), orunsliced graphics (GTUS or GTX). The controlle rprovides

control and protection for two VoltageRegulators (VR). The first VR can be configured for 4-,3-, 2-, or 1-phase

operation. The second VR isconfigurable for 3-, 2-, or 1-phase operation. The VRsfeature a programmable

SVID address to allowmaximum flexibility in supporting desktop processorSKUs. Both controller outputs

share a common serialcontrol bus to communicate with the CPU and achievelower cost and smaller board

area compared with a two-chipapproach.

 

Based on Intersil’s Robust Ripple Regulator R3™technology, the R3 modulator has many advantages

compared to traditional modulators. These include fastertransient settling time, variable switching frequency

inresponse to load transients, and improved light-loadefficiency due to Diode Emulation Mode

withload-dependent low switching frequency.

 

The ISL95866C has several other key features. Thecontroller features three integrated +12V gate driverswith

two on the VR A output. The controller supportseither DCR current sensing with a single NTC thermistorfor

DCR temperature compensation or more precisionthrough resistor current sensing if desired. Both output

sfeature remote voltage sense, programmable IMAX,adjustable switching frequency, OC protection, and

asingle VR_READY power-good indicator. TheISL95866C features an SMBus interface, which support

senabling or disabling droop, output voltage offsetadjustment, and disabling of OVP and OCP protections.
